Cosmetic Crowns
A crown (cap) is a full coverage restoration that is permanently cemented to your tooth . In order to place a crown over your tooth, we must conservatively reduce the tooth in all directions to provide room for the crown. There are numerous reasons a tooth may need a well fitting crown. A few of the more common reasons include broken, fractured, or traumatized teeth, large failing mercury fillings, large decayed teeth, root canal treated teeth, worn or ground teeth, crooked or malaligned teeth, or heavily stained and discolored teeth.
Types of Crowns
You can expect your crowns will appear lifelike and function similar to a natural tooth. We take great pride matching the colors of your natural teeth with the crown color. We only use the highest quality materials to fabricate your crowns as well as being made in the U.S.A. If we decide that you are in need of a full crown, there are a few different options for the repair of your tooth. These options include a full porcelain crown, a porcelain fused to high noble metal or high noble gold crown, or a full high noble gold crown. All porcelain crowns are the most beautiful looking crown we provide. We will make the determination as to which of these options is the most appropriate for your situation. You can be comfortable in knowing that your new tooth will be virtually unnoticeable and will flawlessly complement the rest of your smile.
Procedure
We start by adequately numbing your tooth which is to receive the crown. All decay, fractures, and left over filling materials are removed. We then place a new white filling in the tooth to restore the tooth to ideal form and contours. Next, we will reduce the tooth 360 degrees to provide enough room for the crown. Once the tooth reduction is complete, we take a final impression of the prepared tooth. This impression is used by the laboratory to fabricate your permanent crown. After the impression, we will construct you a temporary white acrylic crown that is cemented over your tooth. You will wear your temporary crown for 3 weeks while your permanent crown is fabricated by the laboratory. At your delivery appointment, we will remove the temporary crown, clean the tooth, and try in your permanent crown. We will then take an x-ray to verify it fits perfectly. Once the fit is confirmed, we will permanently cement the new crown on your tooth. The dental assistant will then review your post op instructions and home care protocols.
