By using white filling materials we can recreate beautiful natural looking tooth contours, colors, and feel. White fillings will actually increase the strength of your teeth as compared to mercury fillings which cause cracking and fracturing of the teeth. In addition, we can make your fillings extra small and conservative because white fillings chemically bond to the tooth where as mercury fillings stay in place by cutting more of your tooth structure. This is an excellent cosmetic option for those patients who do not want the look of silver in their mouths. Bondings can be used on teeth that are decayed, cracked, or stained. When too much of your natural tooth structure is missing, we may recommend stronger restorations such as inlays, onlays, veneers, or crowns.
Procedure
We start by adequately numbing the teeth. We will remove all decay, fractures, and previous fillings. Then the white fillings are placed in multiple steps. A special curing light will harden the white filling to full strength immediately. The final step is shaping and polishing the filling, followed by ensuring that your teeth close correctly. The result is a natural aesthetic tooth. The dental assistant will then review your post op instructions and home care protocol.
