Digital X-Rays

We value your overall body health equally as much as your oral health. Our patients are concerned about dental x-rays and radiation exposure. This is a valid concern. Nobody wishes to receive unnecesary radiation if not warranted. Because of these concerns, we have invested in Digital Radiagraphy Technology. Digital Radiagraphy is a safer alternative of taking x-rays compared to the old film based x-rays. Compared to film based x-rays, digital x-rays produce more than 80% less radiation.

Another terrific advantage of digital x-rays is the higher quality of the image. Once exposed, digital x-rays are saved and displayed on our computers for immediate viewing. Because the quality is so much clearer than film based x-rays, we are able to diagnosis cavities and infection at much earlier stages. This allows us to be more conservative than ever before and allows you to keep more of your own tooth structures. The digital imaging software also allows us to see a number of different views of the tooth to gain a better understanding of the proper course of management. With your permission, we are also able to consult with other health care professionals through email.

Pictured on the right is our digital x-ray system, "Dexis". Dexis is the highest quality system for taking digital x-rays. A digital sensor is placed into the mouth which is connected by a cord directly to the computer. Exactly the same as film based x-rays, the x-ray tube is aimed at the sensor. The sensor captures the picture and immediately displays the image on the computer. No more waiting for films to develop in a processor. Most patients comment our digital sensor is more comfortable than any other sensor or film based methods.
