 Rotary Endodontics
Endodontics is another word referring to root canal therapy. When a tooth becomes infected, traumatized, discolored, fails to recover from a restorative procedure, the inner contents of your tooth must be removed. The tooth does not require extraction, simply its inner core (pulp) needs removal.
Rotary Endodontics refers to a technique that we use to remove the pulp. In the past, we would perform 100% of the root canal therapy by using finger files to remove the pulp tissue. This process would be very taxing on the dentist and take many hours to complete. With today's technology, rotary endodontics allows for more efficient and effective completion of a root canal by utiling an electric handpiece (picture on the right) instead of finger filing. Thus, a motorized handpiece with small flexible files does the majority of the work. The result is a 3D removal of the pulp tissue which allows a more predictable longer lasting final result.
